How to Get Rid of Oily Skin

oily-skin

Excessively oily skin is often the root cause of numerous beauty problems such as acne, pimples, blackheads, etc. It makes your skin look greasy and gives your face an undesirable shine. Usually, it is the result of overactive sebaceous glands that produce excess sebum. Environmental factors like extreme temperature, humidity, over-cleaning, diet, stress, etc. can all contribute to aggravating the problem. It can also be attributed to hereditary factors and hormonal changes.

How to Get Rid of Oily Skin

Below are 7 ways to get rid of oily skin.

  1. Clay Masks
  2. Egg Whites
  3. Aloe Vera
  4. Tomato and Oatmeal Paste
  5. Gram Flour and Buttermilk
  6. Herbal Facial Steam
  7. Oil-Absorbing Sheets

  1. Clay Masks

    • Mix two tablespoons of sea clay, French green clay, and yogurt.
    • Add sufficient fluid (green tea and peppermint tea are best) to form a paste.
    • Spread the mask on your face and neck.
    • Leave on for about 10-15 minutes, until it dries.
    • Wash it off with lukewarm water.

Clay masks prepared from fuller’s earth, bentonite clay, red kaolin clay, sea clay, and French green clay are considered best for oily skin.

*Alternately, you can apply a paste of fuller’s earth, rose water, and witch hazel. You can also apply a combination of fuller’s earth and calamine lotion to control oily skin and acne. Clay masks can include witch hazel as well because of its astringent properties.

  2. Egg Whites

    • Beat an egg white.
    • Add a few drops of lemon juice.
    • Apply it to your face.
    • Leave it on for 15-20 minutes.
    • Wash it off with warm water.
    • Apply this mask about once a week.

Egg whites are beneficial for greasy skin as they help draw out oils. You may add a little honey, too.

  3. Aloe Vera

    • Apply fresh aloe vera gel three times a day.

This is a simple, quick remedy that can be helpful in getting rid of oily skin.

  4. Tomato and Oatmeal Paste

    • Blend a tomato in a blender until you get a smooth paste.
    • Mix this puree with two tablespoons of finely ground oatmeal to form a paste.
    • Apply this paste to your face and neck.
    • Repeat regularly as necessary.

This will help to reduce greasiness on your skin.

*Alternately, you can use a paste of oatmeal, warm water, and a little lemon juice.

  5. Gram Flour and Buttermilk

    • Combine gram flour (besan) and buttermilk to form a paste.
    • Use this paste to scrub your face.
    • Rinse off with clean water.
    • Repeat regularly as necessary.

This will help to reduce excess oil and control the sebum production. If you do not have gram flour, then simply massage your face with buttermilk.

  6. Herbal Facial Steam

    • Combine a quarter cup each of dried rosemary, parsley leaves, peppermint leaves, lavender flowers, and ten drops each of lavender and lemon essential oils.
    • Set the herbal mixture aside for about 24 hours.
    • Boil it in one to two liters of water in a large pot with lid.
    • After turning off the heat, let it steep for about five minutes.
    • Finally, treat yourself to a facial steam by placing your face above the steaming pot.
    • Follow this procedure for 15-20 minutes, once or twice weekly to unclog your pores and limit the sebum production.
  7. Oil-Absorbing  or Oil-Blotting Sheets

You can use these occasionally to remove excess oil on your face. In case you are not interested in buying these sheets, you can use tissue paper or rice paper for this purpose.

Tips to Prevent Oily Skin

  • Control greasiness on your skin and clear the pores by rinsing your face with hot water, followed by a cold water rinse. Do this regularly at night before going to sleep.
  • Fatty and oily diets are believed to promote greasy skin. A high intake of sugary and starchy foods causes a spike in the insulin levels, which in turn stimulate oil production. You can opt for a healthier and skin-friendly diet consisting of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and seeds.
  • At times, women develop greasiness on their skin due to birth control pills. If this is the case, it is best to switch to a different brand.

Dos and Don’ts

Dos Don’ts
tickDo wash your face two times a day with lukewarm water (warm water works as a good solvent) and a mild cleanser. Finally, rinse your face with cold water to close the pores. Do not over-wash, though. crossDo not touch your oily face with unclean hands.
tickDo use oil-free, water-based cosmetic and skin care products, and avoid the ones containing alcohol as they tend to change the pH levels of your skin. As for make-up, use mineral-based powder foundation. Also, use matte cosmetics. crossDo not use creamy lotions and moisturizers too often.
tickDo choose skin care products containing alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) to help reduce excess oil and remove dead skin cells. crossDo not give up your moisturizer completely as lack of moisture can also cause the skin to produce more oil. If you have extremely oily skin then consider using herbal oils prepared from a combination of essential oils, to prevent pores from clogging and to balance the natural oils present on your skin.
tickDo follow a skin care routine involving cleansing, toning, and moisturizing.
tickDo exfoliate your skin once or twice a week.

First of all dont be depressed ,,, cuz oily skin is not ur enemy ,,, !!!
Youll be greatful in the future because oily skin stays young and wrinkle free for a much longer time as compared to those who have normal or dry skin !!!

Hey everyone! I got rid of my oily skin!
My skin was always really oily, and i had tons of blackheads and painful pimples under my skin. About 2 weeks ago i decided that this has to change, i dont want to put tons of make up on every day just to look decent! Before, I would wash my face twice a day, and wipe my face with an oil blotting sheet or rinse my face with water during the day when it got oily. O knew that washing oils from my skin will make my skin produce even more oil, but i thought that would only happen if i washed my face with soap, but found out that rinsing it with water and wiping it did the same thing.

So, I started drinking 2-3 litres of water every single day. I stopped eating fast foods and i gave up coffee and alcohol. I stopped picking or touching my face. I stared washing my face with a face-wash before bed only! In the mornings i just rinse it with warm water, sometimes wipe it with an ice cube, and i always put a lot of moisturiser on my face before bed and in the mornings. I stopped using makeup for a few days and now i only put a little bit on. And I always put my makeup on a few hours after i wash my face, when my skin is all calmed down. And each time my face starts to look oily, i just put more moisturiser on and for some reason it helps.

My skin has cleared up so much and its not oily anymore, im so happy, i can actually walk around without any foundation or powder on.

I think the problem is that people use way too many products way too often, let your skin calm down and breathe. And to state the obvious, i dont use the skincare products that you get from regular shops, like clerasil or nivea and all that crap.
